Announcing Our 2008 Event Schedule
The 2008 Road Atlanta spectator event schedule not
only includes traditional major events including the 11th Annual
Petit Le Mans Oct. 1-4 and the Suzuki Superbike Showdown presented
by Rockstar Aug. 29-31, but also introduces a new sport to the world
famous road course – professional cycling.
Road Atlanta will host Stage 4 of the 2008
Tour de Georgia presented by AT&T on Thursday, April 24. Fifteen teams of eight riders
each will challenge Road Atlanta’s 2.54-mile hilly road course
in the Team Time Trials, a new stage addition to the Tour de Georgia’s
slate of seven stages that will start April 21 at Tybee Island and
end April 27 at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta.
The Tour de Georgia presented by AT&T is
one of the highest ranked professional cycling races in the United
States, and in 2007 attracted 120 athletes from 23 countries, most
of whom were preparing for the Tour de France in July.
Road Atlanta’s 17-event spectator schedule
also includes a variety of motorsports events. The Ferrari Challenge
returns April 18-20 after a two-year absence, and the National
Auto Sport Association (NASA) will invite spectators for the first
time to attend its March 14-16 event.
The 11th Annual Petit Le Mans, the signature event of the American
Le Mans Series, is scheduled for Oct. 1-4, with the 10-hour, 1000-mile
race on Saturday, Oct. 4. The 10th Anniversary Petit Le Mans in 2007
attracted more than 100,000 spectators from around the world.
The American Motorcycle Association (AMA) Suzuki Superbike Showdown
presented by Rockstar returns Aug. 29-31 with points paying Superbike
races both Saturday and Sunday.
The schedule also includes The Mitty ’08
SpeedFest presented by Grassroots Motorsports Magazine historic
sports car race May 2-4, fifth annual Drift Atlanta May 9-10 and
the Year One Experience May 17-18.
Major Improvements Underway
at Road Atlanta
BRASELTON, GA – Road Atlanta has undertaken a major improvement project
that will create an Auxiliary Turn 12 primarily for motorcycle competitors offering
